Giving Thanks
The Turning Point opened its doors four years ago, in November of 2007. Since then, TTP has introduced community acupuncture to 2500 people, providing over 15,000 acu-naps with half-a-million needles. Our youngest patient thus far was less than 100 days old, and our oldest was 100 years. We delight in bringing friends and family together to share in the peace and healing that acupuncture provides. One needle, one person, one family, one community at a time, we work together to ease the suffering in and around us.
When I say "we," I am referring to you--the patients, supporters, friends of Frederick's only community acupuncture clinic. This clinic is nourished by people like Charley Poteat, who built us an outdoor bench...Jonathan Colburn, who created our sidewalk sign (which was so covetable that someone stole it ~ have you seen it around town?)...Goodloe Byron, who created our funky new Acupunkture image...Ann Culey who is sewing eye pillows for patients...artists like Lisa Tarket Reed who share their gifts on our walls (and Lisa will also donate 10% of all artwork sales to The Turning Point)...media specialists like Jackie Cutler and Alex Kotei who created promo materials...those who market our clinic in their workplaces and Facebook pages...who wash blankets, hang fliers, and show-up regularly to sit in the clinic's chairs week after week after week. Thank you.
With the awareness that community acupuncture clinics like The Turning Point are really a product of the time, energy, and money that community supporters (patients) invest, our national organization has restructured to become a multi-stakeholder cooperative: POCA, The People's Organization of Community Acupuncture. The Turning Point and Jessica Feltz both joined POCA this fall. In early 2012, POCA will begin accepting memberships from patient and community supporters, too. Member perks include FREE treatment cards to share with your loved ones near and far, FREE acupuncture for you the week of your birthday, no new patient paperwork fees when you visit any POCA clinic worldwide, and more! Stay tuned for more details...

Ticket sales will be $10 each, and stubs will be redeemable for a FREE acupuncture treatment in the clinic. More info soon on our website and Facebook group.

KICK YOUR FEET UP AND CELEBRATE!
Frederick, MD: Shake away your rainy day blues at The Turning Point (TTP) with the Community Acupuncture Network’s 9th Annual May Day Celebration. Community-building, fun, and affordable health services are the themes that will kick-off our party honoring International Workers Day on Sunday, May 1st from 9am – 2pm. Free Acupuncture, DJ Entertainment by Mix of Sound (www.mixofsound.com), plus food from local businesses will be on hand for an eclectic party mix.
Nearly 100 community acupuncture clinics worldwide will offer FREE acupuncture to thousands of patients on Sunday May 1st. Says licensed acupuncturist Jessica Feltz, owner of TTP and President of the Community Acupuncture Network (CAN): “The May Day celebration is CAN’s way of commemorating the workers in each of our communities: the garbage collectors, teachers, postal workers, librarians, bus drivers, bakers, pet sitters, and more. We’re trying to make acupuncture a commonplace thing that people of ordinary incomes can benefit from.”
With hundreds of clinics comprising this international grassroots movement, Community Acupuncture centers like TTP feature affordable sliding scales from $15 - $35, no income verifications, and cozy recliner-filled treatment spaces. Over 11,000 people have visited Frederick’s TTP since opening in November of 2007. An estimated half-a-million people receive care in Community Acupuncture clinics annually.

What if...
by Jessica Feltz on 03/13/10
And what if your friends--those with insomnia, headaches, digestive complaints, or anxiety--had never heard about this clinic? Would you tell your family--those with any conceivable variety of pain, hot flashes, PMS, fibromyalgia, or asthma--about it?
What if this clinic didn't use any pharmaceuticals or invasive surgeries? The procedures they favored had no negative side effects. In fact, some of the "side effects" were so positive (mood elevation, stress-reduction, and relaxation) that many people who had nothing really wrong with them chose to visit it regularly, just because they liked it.
What if there was a clinic like this in every city across the country: everywhere you have a relative, friend, or acquaintance? What if you knew about this hidden treasure in their community, but they had not yet discovered it...wouldn't you want to share the secret with them?
This video (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eEsHXG4yuvs) is about the Community Acupuncture Network. With over 1,000 members and 150 clinics (more opening every day), there's bound to be a clinic near someone you care about: someone who is struggling with health issues, or who is uninsured, or who is --*gasp*--experiencing stress.
Take a minute to pass this video along. It just might change someone's life.

Why I *Heart* Community Acupuncture
by Jessica Feltz on 02/24/10
-
Two-for-One on Tuesdays helps to knit the networks that nourish our Hearts.
-
The friendships we foster and the family ties we support in our multi-chair treatment room provide the foundation for healthy communities outside its walls.
-
Our narrow sliding scale ($15 - $35) promotes an absence of ostention.
-
Our efforts to support local businesses, schools, and organizations through various collaborations breathes fresh Qi into the fabric of our neighborhoods.
-
A handful of nickel-needles can hold their own in terms of medical prowess.
-
Love for one another is the best medicine of all.
Connecting our communities, bringing joyfulness into our experiences, removing the sticky film of stress that coats so many of our lives...these simple tasks can recreate the Roseto-effect in our own Loving community. Thank you all for bringing The Turning Point into your lives.
